SSAB GreenCoat® roofing sheets – ecology in its purest form

The condition of the natural environment is becoming more and more important to us, not only in the private sphere, but also in business. Heavy industry in particular has an important role to play in this regard. Several decades ago, the Scandinavian steel company SSAB noticed the threat of unlimited emissions of harmful substances into the atmosphere. So he started research on the development of a paint coating, the aim of which was to replace the nitro solvents with a substance of natural origin as much as possible. The result of this research is today environmentally friendly SSAB GreenCoat roofing sheets. The first company to introduce GreenCoat® BT products in Poland is Bratex Dachy Mrzygłód, which has been cooperating with SSAB since 1996.

A global pioneer

SSAB is a highly specialized, global metallurgical concern mainly engaged in the development and production of advanced high-strength steels (AHSS) and heat-treated steels (Q&T) in the form of strips, sheets and tubes. SSAB's products and services help make end materials lighter and increase their strength and durability.
Over 20 years ago, the Swedish SSAB began research into the development of a paint coating, the main goal of which was to replace nitro solvents with a substance of natural origin as much as possible. After several years of research, the world's first varnished roofing sheet with an admixture of rapeseed oil methyl esters was developed. GreenCoat® sheets of the Scandinavian company SAAB are characterized by higher resistance to ultraviolet radiation and better resistance to aggressive environmental factors, while meeting the highest ecological and quality requirements.
SSAB has said it will explore the possibility of a faster transition to fossil fuel-free steel production at its Lulea smelter. The Scandinavian company wants to be the first to offer "green" steel. The Swedes declare the launch of the first "green" steel mill in 2026.

GreenCoat® organic coating

GreenCoat®, based on SSAB's patented BT biotechnology, was launched in 2012. Today, it is the only solution on the market made of natural ingredients with a high bio-renewable content for outdoor applications such as roofs and façades.
GreenCoat® color coated steels have been setting ecological construction trends around the world for years. Their undeniable superiority over traditional materials, such as zinc or aluminum, now allows you to create low-emission buildings even more effectively.

Guarantees supported by experience

The GreenCoat® coating does not contain chromate in its composition, in accordance with the REACH regulation. It is easy to process, does not emit harmful substances into the atmosphere, while ensuring durable and proven operation in buildings.
GreenCoat® guarantees are based on over 40 years of experience of the SSAB concern in testing its products in outdoor conditions, i.e. in places where they are subjected to, e.g. seawater, snow, ice, rain, UV radiation, high humidity, wind and even storms. The products are tested for corrosion, durability of color and gloss, susceptibility to bending or adhesion, with particular emphasis on quality and environmental aspects.
GreenCoat® color coated steels do not contain even trace amounts of chromates and meet all stringent regulations:

  • REACH regulations
  • CLP
  • SundaHus
  • BASTA
  • Byggvarubedömningen (Building Material Assessment, BVB)
  • Swedish Building Product Declarations (Föreningen för Byggvarudeklarationer)

SSAB GreenCoat® roofing sheets

The material that goes to the roof must, above all, cope with demanding weather conditions, and at the same time look great every day. GreenCoat® products for roofs are characterized by excellent formability, high resistance to mechanical damage and a durable appearance. They are also resistant to UV radiation (up to RUV4), energy efficient and scratch resistant, while retaining their color for many years.
Materials supplied by SSAB allow for lighter roofing products while maintaining their highest durability. Here are some of SSAB's GreenCoat® flagship products for roofing.

Ceramic Matt Pro BT

The Ceramic Matt Pro BT sheet is an original palette of colors with subdued color saturation characteristics. This allows you to get a completely new look at the architecture of the building, while ensuring a complete color differentiation of the roof from the surroundings. Ceramic Matt Pro BT is a durable product that was created primarily for roofing applications.
Ceramic Matt Pro BT has optimal properties in terms of resistance to abrasion and weather conditions. It also provides very good corrosion protection (RC5+ class).

Ceramic Matt BT

Ceramic Matt BT is a varnish coating belonging to the group of GreenCoat® products, characterized by increased resistance to scratches and UV radiation. The product provides high corrosion protection, offering protection of the steel core with a weight of 350 grams of zinc per square meter. The Ceramic Matt BT steel sheet with a satin textured varnish effect is a product used for the production of the Savanna modular metal roof tile.

Crown Gloss BT

Crown Gloss BT color coated steel is available in regular finishes (matt and gloss) in a wide range of colors inspired by Scandinavian nature.
Crown Gloss BT combines good technical properties such as UV resistance (RUV3) and corrosion resistance (RC4). The result is a high performance yet easy to form building product for roofing components. Crown Gloss BT offers ease of maintenance and cost efficiency due to the long life of this product.

Mica Matt BT

Mica Matt BT organic coated steel is a guarantee of strength for profiled roofing sheets with high aesthetic requirements. In addition, it provides high gloss and color durability, as well as good corrosion protection (RC5 class). The thickness of the BT coating is optimized for wear resistance, weather resistance and low resource consumption.

Pural Matt BT

Pural Matt BT steel is a matte finish available in 3 colors. This product is the highest level of durability in roofing applications, including standing seam sheets and metal roof tiles.
Pural Matt BT has a coating with optimal resistance to weather conditions - the highest UV classes (Ruv5 for the matte version) and corrosiveness (RC5+). The slightly embossed surface allows better protection against mechanical wear and at the same time ensures easier processing during production. Pural BT steel is highly formable at temperatures as low as -15°C, allowing year-round installation at a lower cost.

Polish-Swedish cooperation

Bratex Dachy has been cooperating with SSAB since 1996, and the constant exchange of experiences, observations and knowledge pays off by constantly expanding the company's offer with new items from the bio-technology series. Bratex's offer is largely based on the ecological pillar. The leading supplier of sheets - the SSAB concern, continuously provides the Polish company with the availability of the following variants based on GreenCoat® BT sheets:

  1. Ceramic Matt BT with zinc protection 350 g/m2 and a 25-year color guarantee
  2. Ceramic Matt Pro BT with 350 g/m2 zinc protection and a 30-year color guarantee
  3. Pro Matt BT PLX with 350 g/m2 zinc protection and a 25-year color guarantee
  4. Crown Gloss BT with zinc protection 275 g/m2 and a 25-year color guarantee
  5. Mica Matt BT with zinc protection 275 g/m2 and a 25-year color guarantee
  6. Pural Matt BT with 350 g/m2 zinc protection and a 25-year color guarantee

GreenCoat® BT sheet is the most ecological solution on the market for roofing. The Bratex Dachy Mrzygłód company is the first direct importer of varnished sheets in coils in Poland produced by the Scandinavian concern SSAB.
