Modular roof tiles - origin

The topic of modular metal roof tiles first requires a definition of "modularity". Due to the ubiquitous availability of metal roof tiles in sheets with a length of two 2 x 35 cm modules, they have become synonymous with "modular". This is due to their compact dimensions, ease of installation and the ability to freely connect the sheets.

The history of modular metal roof tiles

The history of metal roof tiles offered in small sheets has been going on for over 25 years. Initially, these were products manufactured in Scandinavia, with features that facilitate the folding of four corners, where four sheet thicknesses are layered. Unfortunately, at that time in Poland, metal roof tiles were a novelty and in the face of trapezoidal sheets, which were offered in fixed dimensions in the early 90s, metal roof tiles reflected the need of every customer and roofer - one dimension for the full length of the rafters. We produced metal roofing tiles on customer orders, even 9 meters long, not wanting to imagine how they were removed from the truck and transported to the roof slope. However, the most common solution offered for long roofs was two sheets of 3 - 5 meters long, which were joined crosswise.

Although every compact metal roofing tile offered on the market today is called a modular metal roofing tile, not all of them have the features of a product that can be called modular. The sheet metal tile has the right to be called modular not because it is available in short sheets, but because each sheet is an element of the system, an element of the puzzle with specific assumptions, features and requirements.

A real modular metal roof tile solves the known inconveniences and disadvantages of ordinary metal roof tiles cut to length. Sheets of a real modular roof tile must have special embossing, endings, embossing and other features that allow it to be considered as a system element, i.e. the proverbial puzzle where one element fits perfectly with another, nothing sticks out and everything fits evenly.

Exemplary features of the modular metal roof tile

Bratex Anti-Cap, i.e. perfectly protected transverse joining of sheets. No retention of rainwater, ventilation of plants and drainage of condensation products - these are the necessary features of the modular roofing sheet.

The two-segment compensation pocket prevents Bratex modular metal roof tiles from falling against the eaves, and the corners of the four sheets are invisible. Laying on the "passing" is a thing of the past.

Pre-prepared, recessed mounting points indicate the most optimal places for screws, prevent the sheet metal from being scratched with the sharp tip of the drill bit and introduce order in the mounting system.

Bratex Scandinavia - the first modular metal roof tile

Bratex Dachy Mrzygłód introduced the first modular roofing sheet in 2015. It was during this period that we created the definition of modular metal roof tiles, which explained why the product is modular. We have conducted hundreds of trainings, trained thousands of people, passing on knowledge and arguments about the superiority of real modular roof tiles over conventional, i.e. cut to size.

A novelty on the market - a hybrid metal roof tile

With the development of the Bratex product range, it was introduced for sale in 2019 hybrid metal roof tilewhich we offer in compact sheets and made to measure up to four meters long. The hybrid metal roof tile combines the features of a modular metal roof tile, i.e. it has features that affect the correct folding of the sheets, which are part of the system, i.e. the puzzle. Hybrid metal roofing tiles can also be cut to any size, without unattainable ranges with an accuracy of one millimeter.

Due to the fact that the hybrid metal roof tile is an extension of the possibilities offered by modular metal roof tiles, our company has created a definition of "system metal roof tiles", which include:

  • system modular roof tiles
  • system hybrid metal roof tiles

Thus, "system roof tiles" are the so-called product umbrella over modular and hybrid ones.

In the offer of Bratex Dachy Mrzygłód we can find:

3 modular metal roof tiles:

2 hybrid metal roof tiles:

A detailed discussion of the technical features of modular and hybrid metal roof tiles will be presented in subsequent articles.
